The journey continues in search for a Soum (Town) Naadam, in which the encounter was sealed in Tumensogt, northern Sukhbataar. Prior, visit to horse breeders in Dornod Aimag and the Khitan ruin of Kherlen Bar Khot was both historical and picturesque. Heading south toward the Chinese Border is Shiliin Bogd, the zenith amongst a landscape of extinct volcanoes and it is also Mongolia’s holy mountain.
Eastern Mongolia is renown for horse breeding, most winning horses came from the East. Horses are half-wild in Mongolia, and when they need to be ridden, they had to be captured for brief re-orientation before they are good for riding.

South of Sukhbataar Aimag and served by is the village of Dariganga is the Ganga Nuur protected area. It has network of lakes and sandunes. This is the main Ganga Nuur which will host flcoks of igratory birds, especially swans, in September. Focused here is the array of coloured algae at the edge of the lake.

Impressive Khitan ruin in Dornod Aimag. It is believed to be one of the 2 stupas of an ancient Khitan town built in the 12th century. The Khitan were rulers of the Liao Dynasty in Chinese land, which coexisted with the Jin (Jurchen) and southern Song Dynasty. They migrated westward forming Khara-kitay khanate when the Liao dynasty were conquered.
Despite the abundance of rivers and lakes in the north Eastern mongolia, the region relies on water point from town.

Day of Naadam, many residents of Tumensogt town comes to the festival with their horses. Part of Naadam at Tumensogt, a thriving carnival for everyone.
The festive celebration of Naadam at Soum (town) level has a grand opening ceremony. A pair of grandfather and grandson performing the opening skid, residents participate actively in it.
Soum Naadam has very relaxed atmosphere and many attend the event on horseback,This makes perfect sense, as you can watch wrestling matches (and other events) from a good elevation.
The first five winner of a horse racing match are escorted just before the finishing line by the respective escort. Bottom is the winner of the 5-year old horse race being escorted just before the finishing line.
At 1778m, Shiliin Bogd is the highest peak in Sukhbataar province. It is an extinct volcano, and surrounded by extinct volcanos. Shiliin Bogd is sacred to many Mongolians: the spirit of any man (and man only!) who climbs it, especially at sunrise, will be revived. Mongolians comes here from all over Mongolia for pilgrimage.
Shiilin Bogd is Mongolia‘s holy mountain, the highest peak in Sukhbaatar aimag, overlooking Inner Mongolia in China. Shiilin Bogd is an extinct volcano, and surrounded by extinct volcanos. Locals comes here for pilgrimage, and a view of the magnificent sunrise.
